The Arrakeen Scattering
OK, Wow. Ten new members in the last few days. I would thank Hymaintenance for the gift, if I weren't so busy laughing at her. But really, thanks to Chig for putting up the announcement directing members from the latest Scattering to End All Scatterings on his blog, as well as anyone else who has sp...

There's no big hoopla about anything really. It all depends upon what gets you going. Honestly, I'd say a large part of the anime's appeal is the lack of availability and the need that creates. We have animation, but it's not the same nor as numerous in production nor as broad in scope. Anime is di...

I love The Dispossessed, can't remember if you said you read that one or not. Yeah, I read it not too long ago. I actually like the political aspects of The Dispossessed more than the gender stuff in Left Hand. The gender stuff didn't really strike me as all that important. I actually like the poli...

Yeah, I've never seen it, but I know of it. It's kinda like a film noir style homage to 70's/80's popular culture, done in the mecha genre. It looked kinda silly to me, so I never bothered (which is always my big problem with most anime). But I like the odd, obscure reference to your forum handle :...

Cover Confusion
This kind of thing happens quite a bit, where one book cover is re-used on other volumes. I have two different Robert Silverberg books (Book of Skulls, in Gollancz/Millenium's Masterpieces of SF series and a volume of short stories by Subterranean Press) that use the same cover. I have also seen th...

Yeah, I heard Lost was tentatively planned for 6 seasons. There's no way I have patience to wait that long. Even if the sex is good, I won't go through that kind of boring foreplay ever again. See, BSG (2004) was kinda awkward and shy during the mini-series, but we still had fun. By the time season...

It did kind of approach the shark tank there for a bit, but by the end of season three, it was right back on track. IMHO though, it never got as close to the ramp in front of said shark tank as BSG did, and fortunately they both veered away before the end. I just watched the season three DVD's, and ...

The Gutenberg Project
The Gutenberg Project recently added a SF bookshelf to its web page. They already have lots of stuff, but look for more to be added constantly.
There is even a Frank Herbert story there.

I love searching for best of...lists on-line. I have four or five in particular that I used when I put together a list of books to read a number of years ago, and I still love perusing different ones to decide if the voters/creators are on to something, or high on crack. Anyway, I'm going to put the...

Who's Nebby? :) When we were on DN he went by the handle William Smitts. Hes a morally uptight rube who posts on DN and Arrakeen. He writes probably the second worst fanfic, after suicide-boy Seru King, and has a serious stick up his ass about the BG. He was fun for a time, but now hes pretty borin...

Come on! It's not like you're wasting years of your life just sit down and crank out a reading in one day. Then you'll have plenty of ammo to keep you going. True, but why spend money on it, when I can buy something much more fulfilling, like a history textbook? If you go the used route then at lea...

 Is that creature all over the internet? I thought he was doing a masters in something or other, how does he find the time? He probably doesn't work and lives off the taxes I pay. I believe his wife works, if you can believe anything he has written. And I do seem to remember him gloating...

I think its going to be worth watching. I really like the twists they have added in the first couple of episodes. Like other human time travellers set up like cells, and strategically placed materials and equipment waiting for them. And I think its a good idea to have so many villains, like two term...

Now that I think about it, he may have majored in it. Hes got a great story about watching on TV the fall of the Soviet Union just as he was getting ready to graduate. Ragabash's getting ready to take baby steps into that great big world of possibilities, and Yeltsin's drunkenly stumbling to the top...

I'm not much of one for rules, GamePlayer. That is something Hyppo would try to do. Besides, if I implement a rule like that, what is going to happen when its broken? I ban someone? I don't think so. And I don't feel like doing a Hypatia-like response, with all caps, big letters all in red. Just no...

I like Zack Snyder, but I have to say I honestly don't expect much from this next Moore adaptation. Perhaps I'm just being negative, but I don't think Snyder is the right man for the job. Then again, this could be a chance for Snyder to display some chops and create a film with a lot more substance...

You gotta let me see the pile that you have, bro. I still want to get those zombie comics you loaned me a long time ago. I think I read the first one or two and loved it, then never got the rest. I think you could probably support a methamphetmine habbit for cheaper than going to Starbucks. :P I did the math one day. For a 25 year old person, if you take the amount of money that one typically spends on Starbucks every day, and subtracted the amount that it costs to make coffee at home, with...

But I am talking of course about the restaurant on 21st and Broadway. The entire place has a thin layer of pancake syrup on every surface (and in the coffee). Good thing that stuff is not flammable! Ragabash and I both live very close to that place. So, where do you go for coffee? Starbucks? LaBou?...

I have not. All of my McCammon save for Under the Fang went into the Great Darkness years ago. I need to reacquire them all, and I was planning on doing that soon so I could add them to the review pages. Ill include that one now, too!Crysknife wrote:BTW, have you read Stinger? From Hell is amazing, the appendices are just as worthwhile as the regular tale. I own a page of original art from FROM HELL signed by Eddie Campbell. I've flipped through the I AM LEGEND adaption but really can't say how good it is, its black and white and it looked good at a glance. Rob I saw a p...
