Chapter 05

Post by Freakzilla »

We tend to become like the worst in those we oppose.
-Bene Gesserit Coda

As Odrade sits in her workroom, she experiences images of sea child, her life before the Bene Gesserit. This is where she gets her sense of sanity, the ability to balance in strange seas, to maintain her deepest self. She sense sea child as a prescient warning. The breeding mistresses have tried to breed prescience out of the Atreides line with little success. Taraza had urged cautious use of her talent and felt that it only worked to warn her of danger to the sisterhood, Odrade agreed. Lately she's been having a reoccuring dream of walking a tightrope across a chasm while someone approached from behind with an axe to cut the rope. She dares not turn to see who it is. If she falls, the sisterhood falls. They have been sending out Bene Gesserit cells into the scattering and key people have been Sharing Other Memory in anticipation of being found by the Honored Matres. If they captured Sheeana and the worms they might exploit her religion. If Duncan and Teg were captured there would never again be a place to hide. She wonders if Teg had the ability to see people normally hidden and no-ships to find her on Rakis. If Teg could do it, the dangerously talented Duncan Idaho with his generations of accumulated Atreides and unknown genes might learn how too. She might be able to do it herself. It would have an unbalancing effect on their universe and send the Honored Matres on a runaway track to eliminate countless Idaho offspring. Memories of sea child restored her which she had desperately needed. Belonda enters with a report of the destruction of Lampadas, there were no survivors including Burzmalli and his hand picked defense force.
They were destroyed because they lied pretentiously. Have no fear that my wrath
will fall upon you because of your innocent mistakes.
