My wife dared me to put it up. She took it. In the vein of all fine art, she named it "Straining at Stool."

I haven't laughed this hard since...talking to Teg last night.

You HAVE GOT to post a reduced version as your sig over on 'Keen. She'll...just shit herself.

(I don't even want to think about the domestic politics involved in the taking of the thing and the daring.)

YOU DA MAN! (Almost obviously) :D

Naaaa, I think you're trying to ape a certain sometwo’s writing style. :)
Look, I'm not much good at big speeches, and I know I haven't always been an easy guy to get on with, and I know, that given the choice, I wouldn't have chosen you as friends, but I just want to say, that over the years, I have come to regard you as people I met.

No sir... I never had that honor. My dad did 2 tours in Vietnam. I honor his service by wearing an Army campaign hat with my dads unit badge on the hat. So I accept your salute for him.

Tho in real life he was an alchoholic and an ass. The booze and the memories of 'nam caused his death at the age of 43.

Plus my boys are in the Air Force ROTC at school and they march in the parade.

Thought I'd copy this from Jacurutu for anyone who isn't over there and for some reason wants to see me without a shirt on. Wish I had a more recent pic with my whole right arm inked.
A Thing of Eternity wrote:Okay, this is two or three years ago when I was on tour. I look pretty much the same now, except my entire right arm is one big japanese tattoo, I have a bit of a beard and my earlobes are stretched to about an inch now (in the pic they're at a little less than half that). I'm sure I'll get some lewd comments (orald) but I'll live.

Picket fence to still put up?

Facial hair?

Hair on top?!

Not to pick nits but it's a Cardigan :) , or to quote the youths, a zipper top.
Thanks Omphalos he's a bonny wee boy and crazy about his cars, his fav of the moment being Ford's Ferrari killing GT40.

I don't know why, but it's the first thing that came into my mind seeing your picture. You're definitely a lot less bouncy than I imagined :)

No, I don't think you look like Jeff Goldblum. It's just the picture; you're son appears to be looking for something and you've got this sort of questioning "where's the exhibit?" look on your face :)

Plus I'm a total film geek, so most everything strikes me as a movie quote :)

Nice one. I was just checking cause I'm sure someone along time ago said I did, but now I think about it they had a white cane and an seeing dog.
Speaking of quotes and what with all this talk of reading Banks I looked out "Look to Windward" to reread and this struck me a funny

It's not bad if I stay out of rush hour and it helps that I work 4 10-hour days. I'll move closer to work when my credit and the housing market improves. By then my country home will be suburban and the schools will suck anyway.

I live about 65 miles from the uni. I learned at my previous job that if you live in the same (small) city where you teach, you keep running into students working part-time jobs and you end up with everyone knowing where you shop, who you were out partying with, etc. I prefer the commute and my privacy. Only having to be in the office three days doesn't hurt, of course. ;)

Try to keep it under five figures, or at least under six... I only keep so much money put aside for bailing out people who... um,... "interact" with our "favorite" authors.

You have a beautiful wife. Also, either you are very tall or she is very short.

I always wanted to wear a kilt, I could get away with it with my red hair.

You're 6'8"? Holy fuck, I'd say more than a little of both.

My girl's about that height too, but a bit more south asian.
Your wife's heritage is from where? I have a hard time telling certain asian groups apart.

Ah, I was debating guessing Chinese or Filipino. Mixed people are always the best looking; your kids will grow up to be very handsome.

I'd have to make up my own tartan. Are there any rules to that or can you just make up whatever you want and say it's your families?

Are you Scottish? What's your family name? It's pretty easy to find what clan or sept your family is part of.

Look here: http://www.traceit.com/tartans.htm

The Kendricks are a sept of the MacNaughton clan, the tartan:

I'm not officially Scottish, but my red hair makes me pretty sure it's in my heritage on both sides. I'm officially Ukrainian and English. I might try that site with my mother's maiden name (english side) and see if it brings anything up.

Thanks.

My ancestors were MacBeths and MacDonalds. More MacBeths though. Our family was incredibly wealthy before the Civil War and they kept importing cousins to marry into the family so that there was no danger of losing that wealth. Too bad they lost it anyway.

Nope, that site has no tartan for my English side. They do claim to have a coat of arms though, might check that out someday when I have too much money sitting around. I figure it's a waste of time to check my Ukrainian name (Holowaychuk), not bloody likely to have a tartan affiliation.

So I can just make one up now?

I think she did it on a website. Just resize your pic, plug it into a premade background (and foreground, as it were), and voila!
