Yeah, fear and moan monger Marilyn Martin already posted a link to the story over in one of her threads in the Amazon Science Fiction forum; wondered "how many haven't they caught yet".

Not too worried here.

Don't you need like tons of fuel in a pile to start a chain reaction?

What a maroon.

According to wiki you'd need about 15kg of uranium-233 in a sphere of about 11cm diameter to reach critical mass.

Of course there are other variables, and presumably it would be pretty impressive if he managed to get his hands on that much uranium.

Still, you'd have to surround it in water, contained in a concreet and steel vessel and a way to cool the water...

I'd like to know more about how he was trying to do it, if he'd actually thought about all that stuff.

Not really a very big deal if it was just tiny quantities, I imagine he won't really get in much trouble since he essentially reported himself!
I deleted some of your posts because they were derailing the topic and not focusing on the issues asked, and instead going after the authors or their material. That's why. ~ BM

Only later did he realize it might not be legal and sent a question to Sweden's Radiation Authority, which answered by sending the police.
At least he got a definitive answer to his question.
