Here's a wee fan made short, it's a scene from issue 51 apparently so there may be some spoilage for some.

Look, I'm not much good at big speeches, and I know I haven't always been an easy guy to get on with, and I know, that given the choice, I wouldn't have chosen you as friends, but I just want to say, that over the years, I have come to regard you as people I met.

That fan film was good. I loved that issue. TWD is hands down the best comic book that has ever been written. I'm so pissed that they are playing games with hardback vol 5. It's two months late now.

Looks like the TV version of this has been greenlit for six episodes already, and will be out before the end of the year.

My four-year-old daughter is a zombie lover. She walked in on me watching Return of the Living Dead III one night and was fascinated. A couple of nights ago she asked me to put on a zombie movie, so we watched Night of the Living Dead 3D.

Good for her! my boy has watched a few light-hearted zombie things with me. He's too skittish for the hardcore stuff, but he sees my books and talks to me about how much I love them often.

Her older brothers, on the other hand, will be shivering under my chair, afraid to go to the bathroom during a zombie movie.

A small drift but what the heck, I had the chance to watch La Horde last night and bite it hands off. For those who may not know La Horde is a recent French Zombie movie and it's one of the best I've ever seen. So if you can get to see it, do so...

Thanks for that, man. Looks like they've added a few things to the original story, but I always did think that first year could have used a bit more.

And thanks for the heads up too, about le Zombie. NEver heard of it, but Ill put it on the list for sure!

I actually saw a short preview ad for this the other day. Just checked Wikipedia and it says the show is to premier the first week of November on various Fox International channels. I don't know if that means they'll really start it up then or not (I didn't catch a date when I saw the ad), because it usually takes them forever to make the subtitled versions, but I'll keep you informed.

(Still waiting for Fringe to start up at the end of November. )

Here's a wee treat, a 720p trailer for The Walking Dead. I'm not sure if it is the same one as above but the quality is beautiful and well worth grabbing even if it's not new. The default language is Russian but there is an English stream you just need select audio track 2 or whatever your player calls it. Most likely go: right click/audio/audio stream/select.

I've watched the show twice so far; last night and the night before, on Halloweenl. I think it's great. Pretty faithful to the book, with minor changes and additions to flesh out the story, and make it presentable as a television show. IMHO they made some of the stories better, like Morgan's, and the Rick/Lori/Shane triangle, and they did a much better job than Kirkman of developing Shane. The creators have not backed down off of any of the premises of the first issue or two of the comic book series, including murder, suicide, apocalypse, family, abandonment, and survival. It's got it all, and it presents it really well. To top it off, the effects were better than I had hoped for an unproven TV show. I hope the quality of the second episode is as high as the first. Where I think they can lose a little ground is with Carl. That kid came off as pretty clueless. He's going to need to show some serious acting chops if he is going to morph into the boy as he exists in the comics. Though from the extremely minor contact we had with Glen, I think they got him spot on.

Looks like that and Sunday nite at 8:00 are going to be the regular time slots.

I'm not really all that into zombies, but this looks kinda fun and, well, I guess Omph has kinda rubbed off on me. :P

The Walking Dead is fantastic, the only work that I can compare it to is Romero's seminal work Day of the Dead which to my mind beats Dawn hands down. I'm really anticipating the forthcoming episodes. Does anyone know the length of the remaining episodes? Are they going to be shorter that ep1?

Pretty sure the remaining episodes will be one hour each, and there are five more in this first season. Hope they make a season 1.5 in six months, like they do with all those other cable shows.

YESSSSSSSS!

(Payback for characters like that screamy little bitch in the War of the Worlds remake, etc. :D )

Edit:

Just finished. Kewl. :D

Evidently they cut a bunch of the truly grotesque scenes (according to the complaints on one of the Japanese boards where they bash Fox Japan—which is who's showing it over here—all the time). We didn't get any of the horsey stuff at the end, evidently.

Yeah... I'm IN!

The horse scene was just a few moments long, and to be honest, it was the one scene that I thought was directly inspired by the legions of stupid, lame-o zombie films where they have them eating bloody sausages and the like that mimiced body parts. I thought that one image could have been done better; it was a cliched image.

Is everyone still watching this? I am really liking it so far. Yesterday's episode turned really melodramatic; much more than preceeding episodes. The trailer for the last episode makes it look like its going to be worse. They are really screwing with the plot too, and that bothers me a bit.

Still in for the long haul, but I think the initial excitement has worn off a bit. Oh, and a little worried that the AMC web page has fucking google ads on it.

Yeah, I'm still watching it.

I think the last episode I saw was the one where at the end they go back to get Merrill (sp?/that his name, or the bro?) on the rooftop and the dumbfuck had sawed his own hand off to escape. (You know what FH would say about that.)

That kinda killed a little of my enthusiasm, because that means there's going to be a whole drawn out "Return of Merrill or whatever" and "REVENGE of Merrill" and "Putting Merrill DOWN" series of plot developments that are just going to bore me shitless.

Have I mentioned that that kind of crap bores me shitless? It does! :P

You don't fool around with assholes like that. Screw that "endangered species, every living human counts" humanistic PC bullshit. The deputy should have put a bullet in his fucking brain and been done with it first thing he acted up. Period.

'Cause that's the way we roll in Larrytown.

Now that there's a TV show, I'm actually catching up with the comic ... yeah, I know, that makes zero sense.

I think I sold the comic short on my first attempt. I'm really enjoying it this time around. If I had to guess, I'd say I was too tired during the first try to enjoy anything; my oldest son had just been born, and I was kind of half-assed tired all the time.

Good for you! I just read vol 6 of the hardback compilations. Really good. Every year I have to fight the urge to buy the tpb semi-yearly collections and wait for the yearly hb. Its tough this time. I wanna know what happens in {censored}.

I'm hoping that the awaited return of the one-handed brother will be just that, the unresolved tension that it is causing is a superior source of drama.

btw, does everyone know that a second season of 13 episodes has been signed off? Well you do now!!

The only gleamings I've found re scheduling is that they're aiming for February to start filming.
wiki wrote:On August 31, 2010, Darabont reported that The Walking Dead had been picked up for a second season, with production to begin in February 2011. On November 8, 2010, AMC confirmed that there would be a second season consisting of 13 episodes.[3] Darabont, who wrote and directed the pilot, spoke of his plans to introduce fan favorite Michonne early on in the second season's run. He would also like to include some of the "environmental elements" that take place during Volume 2 of Kirkman's book.[15]
The source (http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/2010 ... 1108amc01/) for the information above gives a little more fluff but nothing earth-shattering just PRbabble.

Saw the Merl's hand/Latino stand-off episode last night. I was REALLY irritated when they withdrew to think things over, but then the twisty changed my mind and it was pretty cool. And the end was great, except for that wee voice in me head going, "How fucking lame is it that they had NO ONE on watch?! And no warning system...zilch?!"

Yep. Weren't sure how well the gore factor would go over. This is pretty innovative and risky for basic cable. But they see that the audience is there, so next season will probably have 10-13 episodes. That'll be the real test; to see if they can carry interest for over 13 weeks.

That six episode "season" model has worked really well for the BBC. Survivors. Dead Set (which was five, and Channel 4, but come on). That older vampire show I cant remember the name of.

Actually, if one of our friends in the UK can reccomend a good site that lists all of the BBC/British SF shows, that would be keen. I'd like to find more to watch. You guys seem to do a ton of six-episode SF series, but I cannot find anyplace that lists all of them.

EDIT: I think the vampire show was Ultraviolet.

I noticed that as well after I started getting into BBC America: the British model for a "season" is typically somewhere between five and eight episodes. And, generally, they do a fantastic job with it.

The U.S. network model, historically, has always been for longer seasons. I'm pretty sure that even into the '70s, popular shows such as M*A*S*H were getting orders for 28 or 30 episodes. Finally, it settled into a pattern of 20 to 23 episodes for a typical network show. I think it has to do with the number of non-holiday weeks between Labor Day and Memorial Day, with some built-in dead weeks for sporting events, network specials, and tryout periods for new shows. I think I remember reading that the magic number of weeks left over, after subtracting all that stuff, was 22.

Of course, the explosion of cable has changed the "rules" quite a bit. Shorter, punchier (not to mention cheaper) seasons of 10 to 13 episodes seem to the norm for U.S. cable.

It was OK but I'm having a difficult time getting into it. There was quite a suprise ending but so far it seems like it's just more of the same, they're just heading to a different location now. Ft Benning instead of Atlanta. I want to see more about the zombies, not people's relationships. Without that it's just a soap opera set in a zombie apocalypse.

Zombies only take one so far, the relationships and trials of the remaining living are what really matter.

I'm digging it. Not as much as last year, but it's good.

Yeah, but that too only takes you so far, until the zombie hoard returns. I've got my own real life soap opera going on, I need zombies.

was the horseshit about the one fucking bag of guns in the graphic novel ?
or was that a dumb-ass never-been-outta-LA screenwriter's idea ?

Still haven't seen any of the new season...

Its been a while, but I think the bag as a prop was in the graphic novel, but was not used in the same way. I think he just grabbed it from the police station and used it to give people guns at the camp; or maybe he held off a bit until people got used to using them.

The Atlanta scenes were very brief in the books. I think Rick got jumped there once and Glen got him out right away, then the two went back to raid a gun shop, then they put what's-his-name on the outskirts to die and reanimate and go back to his family. That's it for the city in the books. The rest of the time they are in the burbs or the wilderness.

I watched all of Season One back-to-back online - somebody go ahead and give
a spoiler because I won't remember it, anyway :

what did the scientist whisper in the sheriff's ear before the CDC blew up ?

I am. I thought all three episodes were good. There certainly was not as much action in #3, but they did a great job setting up the Governor. I wondered how they would portray him. Not so blatantly evil as in the comics.

On the other hand, the actress playing Michone is absofuckignlutely awful. She's got that character totally wrong. Michonne is aloof and quiet, but she was always in her right mind (absent talking to phantoms) and an asset to those around her. In the show she is still very private, but she is also single-minded, pouty, demanding and a real drag on Andrea. Pretty much the only thing she did was stand around and frown. I can't stand her. She seems to have the bad-ass ninja shit down pretty well, but nothing else.
