Hey, were the boards down again?

It's about 1:45 AM Saturday morning JST here (12:45 PM EDT Friday), and when I tried accessing both sites about 15 minutes ago, neither one showed up. (Server not found error.)

Are we spotty, or really back? :(

Still checking on data loss. The only way to check really is to search around and find it.

Right now we are intentionally spotty. The server will come down several more times over the weekend as new things are added. We have a number of boards and blogs to bring back on line and some of that cant be done while users are knocking on the door. We are also taking the opportunity to upgrade everything. So we will have the latest PHPbb, for example. We aer also upgrading to php 5.0, and a bunch of other things. MySQL is getting upgraded too. If you get spotty service, just check back. Its probably us messing around.

Ill make an announcement on HToD if anything will be going down for longer than 15 minutes.

      OK, cool. Was just wondering.

(I'd had a lie-down for most of the evening—damned hole in my jaw—and everything had been back up, so I was concerned when nothing showed. :( )

Just to acknowledge that we were down for a bit here this morning. Some genius managed to get our old hard drive working again ( ), so we were downloading stuff from it and had to restart the hard drive. We are having a bit of trouble getting the web server software to get going after that, but we think its a configuration issue, and if so that should be easily resolvable.

Definitely will not be smooth sailing until a few days have passed, but the lion's share of connectivity issues should be in the past now.

We seem to have recovered as well as we're going to.

Thanks to the genius of Alan, the server tech at the colo facility that hosts this server, we managed to save the majority of essential data and software from the old drive. Some of it got corrupted, but that seems to be in the small minority, and does not appear to include any of the data or executable files for the boards, or any other web site the machine hosts.

If you notice any missing posts or strange behavior of the board, please let me or Omphalos know. (this goes for Jacurutu too, naturally.) if you DO notice a missing post, that pretty much means it's gone forever. Two of the files that got toasty when the disk went down were the tables that contain posts for both TaU and Jacurutu, so there is a small possibility that this has occured.

Is it just me, or are the pages stretched now? I have to scroll to the side to read the posts, and there aren't any wide images in this thread.

Is that Askaris' sig file that's doing that to you, Mandy? If not let me know. There may be some leftover problems from the recent frazzle.

I don't know, the image in his sig doesn't seem to be wide enough to stretch the page. I'll block it and see what happens.

Edit: Nope, it's not his sig.

I should also mention that I noticed there's a scroll bar at the bottom of the page even if I don't have a thread open. I'm using the Getaway template.

I really have no idea how to fix it, I haven't changed any of my settings. The weird thing is that it's not stretched on the main index page, but when I open a forum or a thread it is. It's not really a big deal, just weird.
