Y: The Last Man is a comic book series that is now complete and available only in six-issue compilations. At least I am not aware of any ultimate editions yet. The first compilation issue comes off as a combination of SF, magic and divine retribution. It is the story of a small group of survivors of an apocalyptic event that killed every male creature on the planet in one single moment by making them hemorrhage and bleed out. Astonishing at the start, it becomes even more astonishing when one man and one male monkey survive, presumably because of their close proximity to a magical engagement ring. Sound silly? It is. And it is jumpy, ill plotted and the characters make some stupid decisions that manage to work out a bit too conveniently. But like carrot cake, never let it be said that a decent dessert cannot be made with some bad ingredients...Please click here, or on the book cover above, to be taken to the complete review..

I own the entire series. My boss used to joke that my "gay porn was in" when we'd get the next in the series.

Y starts off with a great premise and then crashes and burns. by volume 8 I was wondering if there ever would be an ending to this. the ending is basically kill off everyone that matters, then happy ending, then no happyness isn't what we want, lets end it with

W
T
F.

I'd suggest reading this before you buy. there are some great moments in it, and its a very creative series. but yeah, don't expect the greatness to last. if you can try to ignore the heavy soap-opera moments. I think this was basically supposed to be a romantic sci-fi book meant to appeal to women and instead it probably only will be enjoyed by red-blooded males and lesbians. I mean seriously, there is only one guy left on earth and it seems like all of the old and fat women died off also.

iirc they never tell you what kills off all the males.
