IMDB has not yet been updated, but rumor is that John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor are both going to be in this. Further rumor is that in this take on a disaster predicted by the Mayan calendar, the world is actually destroyed, and not saved in the typical Hollywood BS way. That alone would have gotten my butt into a seat, if only the director did not colossally, ubiquitously, and universally suck soiled ass.

I refuse to see anything done by Dean Devlin or Roland Emmerich. I hate their movies even more than Michael Bay films. Michael...Bay...films, you understand? :)

Bay is starting work on Transformers 2 out here soon and Terminator 4 is shooting some out here as well.

Following that link, I didn't see any reference to "the truth".... did I miss something?

The last splash in the trailer says "Find out the Truth: Google 2012."

Haven't looked at the trailer yet (slow connection) but had a quick look at the WP article. This amused me:
John Cusack as Jackson Curtis, a divorced writer who occasionally works as a limousine driver.[9]
Amanda Peet as Kate, Jackson's ex-wife.[1]
Thomas McCarthy as the boyfriend to Jackson Curtis's ex-wife.[10]
Damn. WhyTF didn't they just write "Kate's boyfriend"? Damn, people are stupid.
Woody Harrelson as a man who prophesies the end of the world and is considered crazy by others. Harrelson compared his character to the mythological Greek figure Cassandra, whose predictions were dismissed.[11]
Kewl...does that mean we get to see Woody in an ancient Greek bint's dress?

I don't care who directed this, who's in it, who produced it, whatever. Its going to be the greatest eye-candy ever made.

They've been showing commercials for it here about every half hour, judging just by those Omph is right. This is going to be spectacular.

This is the one with the tidal waves coming over the Himalayas, right?

Gonna be fun fun fun. I've got an almost-Brian-Herbertesque thing about mass destruCtion.

(Btw, did anyone see the time capsule/prophecy stinker with Nicholas Cage? I liked the CG interpretation of the "spaceships" of Ezekiel, but that was about it.)

I just saw that movie within the last few weeks. Absolutely hated Cage in it, but otherwise loved it. After it was over I was wallowing in self-scorn for having so much fun with such a cliche piece of crap movie. End of the world stuff gets my blood pumping too.

Spiff should me the 5 min trailer yesterday.

This movie is going to be so corny.

Can hardly wait to see it.

Love the disaster films.

I hope this movie & talk of it further fuels the 2012 Armageddon bullshit,
sucks in those who haven't been deluged with all the History Channel crap
on the subject.

I had me a fucking ball in 1999 with the Y2K hysteria. Took some time
off from work, showed up at my brother's farm in East Texas with a truck and
trailer, just drove up, jumped out and started loading random stuff out of his
barn into the trailer.

He'd been on me for months about the end of the world - got on my nerves
something fierce. He showed up while I was loading up some of his good tack,
mad as hell. Hey, the world's ending, right ? You don't need this shit.

I could always whip his ass, so I made off with a bunch of stuff.

I can always end rapture and second coming conversations with this as well.

"You're sure we're in the End Times right now, Bob ?
Well, fuck, then you don't need that there bass boat, do ya ?
I'll be around tomorrow & just take that off your hands ...."

blue track suits & Nikes for everyone !

Love it. :D

(Hey, 'Rider, if you get bored and want to have some fun, look around in the Aliens & Science Fiction communities over on Amazon. There's an old dear named Marilyn Martin who goes in for anything fringe. I think she's got at least one 2012 thread started over there. Said the other day that she'd have turned me & this other guy into amoebas ages ago if she had the power! :P )

Those scenes would have been better if not for following that limo that avoids EVERYTHING...

Otherwise, very kewl...

Yeah, saw that a few weeks ago. Load of crap. I got a strong M. Night Shyamalan vibe from it, which is almost never a good thing.

As for 2012, I'm expecting disappointment. I keep seeing the commercials on tv, with various buildings collapsing, and can't get over how utterly fake it looks.

There's nothing wrong with having high standards, my dear. It's just not normally a male trait.

I thought it looked pretty fake too. Special effects have come a long way, but I think move makers need to respect the limits of CGI at this time and work around them. I would give ANYTHING to see model spaceships in SF rather than GCI, it's the one thing they could do so easily with models but just refuse to because they SUCK.

They would save a bundle of cash with models...

I'll check again, just to make sure.

Anyway, it's not the CGI I was complaining about really, not the visual look per se. It was more that the buildings seemed to fall in unrealistic ways, not the way a real building would collapse. Not that I'm an engineer or anything, but that's just the way it seemed to me.

Saw this in the theater today. It was exactly what I thought it was: Stupid story with uninspiring characters with fantastic special effects. As soon as they started talking about "mutated neutrinos" from an overactive sun as the cause of calamity I turned my ears off and enjoyed the ride.

Ive heard that a TV show sequel is in the works.

What else? And several sequels and maybe even a prequel or two as well, I'm sure.

Went and saw this tonight. (waited until it came to the discount theater) It was a diaster flick, pure and simple. Any science was laughable.

I kept waiting for someone to bust that American jerk's nose.

As many of you have already said, as long as you don't try to make sense of anything..it could be an enjoyable laughable film. A diaster movie worthy of the 70s.

1 thing though...since DC was built on a swamp, wouldn't it have gone down a LOT sooner than it did?
