Haven't heard a word about this until tonight, but it looks purdy.

EDIT: Hmmmm. IMDB makes it sound like a rip-off of that shakey-cam Godzilla movie from a few years ago. The JJ Abrams one. Can't recall the title as I sit here.

I kinda liked it but I think I was drinking heavily at the time.

Really? I quite liked it, actually. :D

When was that, summer before last? Got it along with that PoS The Mist.

Huh? From the shakey-cam stuff? I didn't think there was anything gross enough to puke over... :?:

That shakey-cam stuff just turned me off from the movie totally. And all the hype beforehand was just overboard in my opinion. Could have been a good movie but missed the mark with the overdone shaking. Although I never got sick watching it (unless you count the headache) so don't know why movie goers would have left so much stuff behind.

Oh well.

Back to the OP... To be honest, I didn't bother looking at the linked stuff this morning.

The pic is pretty, but... "two of the characters getting an eyeful of some really alien-looking ships in the Los Angeles skyline."

Yeah, about those ships... kinda hard to tell how big they're supposed to be, but the shapes are pretty NON-aerodynamic, huh? Seems to me that EVEN if you had suspensors or some other form of anti-gravity, you'd still have to be concerned about aerodynamics unless your ship was just oh-jesus-just-fook-me-now humongous, like in ID4 or V.
In the sci-fi thriller Skyline, strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.
Yeah, I'm sure I've seen this in a Dr Who/Torchwood episode. ;)

Has anyone seen this? Evidently it came out (straight to DVD?) in November?

It was released a few weeks ago here in the states and has (I think) already gone into the land of forgotten films.

They did run a ton of advertisements for it here.

I saw a review that called it an excellent demo reel for the FX company, then advised people never to watch it, even if it were on TV for free.

That's what I was thinking, from watching the (three) trailers: a (hopefully) fun, fast-paced, throw-popcorn-at-the-screen scifi groaner! :D

And I DO mean groaner, because I could tell just from the trailer that there's gonna be LOADS of silly "science". (Like, an alien "grabber force" that can only work on you IF YOU LOOK AT IT? WHAT THE BLUE FUCK?! Optical suck-u-tractor beam? GMAFB!

(Looked like one of the actors from Haven is in it. Started airing over here recently; have caught a few episodes.)

Just watched this on pay-per-view. Man, was I wrong about this movie. Yes, it could have been better, but I can't remember seeing a film that was truer to its premise or filmmakers more dedicated to following their ideas to their logical and sensical conclusion. This one is worth seeing.

Yep. Great effects and beautifully shot too. For a monster alien/horror crossover it lacks the suspense of Alien, the actors are all B level and there are a few places where you must shut off the old nugget for a few moments, but overall I really liked it.

Have you seen the Battle Los Angeles one yet? Was just wondering how they compared.

(Since the Battle one appears to have been really shitty—I think it was supposed to start around the first of April over here and I saw maybe one or two commercials for it on TV and then nothing—and you're really liking this one now, I'm figuring there's not much of a comparison to be made. ;) )

Watched it last night, and that about sums it up. Minus the "fun" part, and with extra emphasis on the "groaner" part. Pretty damn horrible.
