Chapter 01

Post by Freakzilla »

Most discipline is hidden discipline, designed not to liberate but to limit. Do
not ask Why? Be cautious with How? Why? leads inexorably to paradox. How?
traps you in a universe of cause and effect. Both deny the infinite.

-The Apocrypha of Arrakis

Reverend Mothers Schwangyu and Lucilla are on a parapet looking down at the twelfth in a line of Duncan Idaho gholas. Schwangyu is openly against the costly and dangerous project and Lucilla has been warned by Mother Superior Taraza that she will try to win her over and is not to be trusted with the ghola's safety. While Schangyu is a skinny, wizened old lady Lucilla is a young, beautifull imprinter of the best training. Schwangyu is in charge of the keep where the ghola is being raised and her faction are openly against the project, fearing that they may disturb the pearls of awareness in the worm remnants of Leto II or create anther Kwisatz Haderach. This is a bad time to create trouble in the sisterhood with the threat of the Honored Matres returning from The Scattering. Schwangyu informs Lucilla that there is a young girl on Rakis who can control the worms and suggests that the ghola may be used to influence the girl. Lucilla is to teach the ghola love in all it's forms but it is never done on one so young. The Sisterhood views love as a genetic safety net to be used cautiously to creat bonds to and between people. Lucilla has been told she resembles Senior Security Mother Darwi Odrade but Schwangyu will not confirm that this is who she is imprinting for. Both Lucilla and Odrade are Atreides decendants of Siona. Lucilla gets such a strong sense of doom from her Other Memory regarding the ghola project that she must recite the Litany Against Fear. Schwangyu tells her he has no friends, only teachers and hates them very much.
They were destroyed because they lied pretentiously. Have no fear that my wrath
will fall upon you because of your innocent mistakes.
