Recently acquired a new mandolin. This is a European octave mandolin. Actually they called it a bouzouki, but it's a little different than each instrument. A bouzouki is basically a Greek mandolin with a longer neck. They are usually potato-bug style and have really, really thin necks. I think some ...

Q2. You’ve said that you invested three years of your life researching Jules Verne. It sounds like Frenchman’s life story is something of a lure for you. What makes him and his work so interesting? Bull. Fucking. Shit. It took this clown three years to read a few Verne books. That's about it. I wou...

But wait! There's More! My steampunk historical novel, THE MARTIAN WAR, was just released by Titan Books. http://kjablog.com/ Pretty sure that book was published after I took up the jihad, sometime after 2005. I don't want to look though, because in the end, I care not. IIRC his first "fantasy...

I loved The Road, but it's definitely questionable whether the message is "look how bloody terrible this will be, we'd better not freaking go this route", or if it's just dark for the sake of dark. Agree. The story is dark, dark, dark, yet it ends on a note that could be construed as good...

Its all in the tone that you take. There have been plenty of dystopia/catastrophe books in the past, but I would say that by a large margin most of those from before the 2000's were about rebirth; as in, the world we know goes to hell, but something better comes from it. A lot that I see these days ...

I was psyched for this for the longest time. But you know, I've beem seeing soooo much promo material for it lately, it makes me feel like they are over doing it because they know its gonna suck. Re: What are you listening to?
Wilco's a great band, I should buy some of their stuff, it's some of the rare non-metal that I might actually listen to on a regular basis. Meh. Tweedy was far better in his original band. There are a handful of excellent Wilco songs, but I much prefer Farrar's work in Uncle Tupelo. Wilco sounds li...

Thats kind of beyond me, but it looks cool!
My daughter made me download the Phineas & Ferb soundtrack album, so I've been inadvertantly listening to that lately. Actually more her singing along with it, which is kinda nice.

I could not believe it. Ita one of those atores that specialize in PBs, but they are starting to branch out. I dont think I stole it from them, as they had a decent markup on it, but still, I almost (almost) feel guilty.

Hope you all had a good holiday. Re: What are you listening to?
Been listening to a lot of old Tom Waits lately, mostly stuff before Swordfishtrombone. I have a lot of his albums and I generally like them all, but I prefer the very old stuff from the 70's; his tipys sounding stuff, like Closing Time.
